A Journey to the End of Time

The Solar System in 3D, in real time

A simulation of the Solar System driven by real ephemerides. The Sun, the planets, Pluto and the major moons, space probes, the International Space Station, nearby stars and the black hole at the centre of the Milky Way are where they really are at the chosen moment. You can run time from 1700 to 2100, fly from one object to another and look at the sky from anywhere on Earth.

Proxima Centauri

Star

Facts

Distance
4.24 light-years
Spectral class
M5.5 V
Diameter
about 0.14 times the Sun
Mass
about 0.12 times the Sun
Apparent magnitude
11.09

Proxima Centauri is the star closest to the Sun, just over 4 light-years away: a red dwarf of spectral class M5.5 V, much smaller and cooler than the Sun, with only 12% of its mass. It is too faint to see with the naked eye, and it orbits Alpha Centauri A and B in about 550,000 years.

In 2016 the planet Proxima b was announced: at least 1.3 times the mass of Earth, it completes an orbit in 11 days within the zone where water could be liquid.
